Who We Are

Susan Caughman – President & CEO

A veteran consumer marketing executive, Susan Caughman spent more than twenty years in senior positions in publishing, consumer marketing, financial management, and brand development prior to founding New Hope Media in 2000. From 1990 to 1996, she served as Senior Vice President of Consumer Marketing, Time Inc, responsible for subscription and retail marketing, consumer research, creative development, database marketing, customer service. From 1996 to 2000, she was President & CEO of American Family Enterprises, a direct marketing company owned by Time Inc. and other investors. Earlier in her career, she worked in marketing and finance at Time and Newsweek International, as well as serving as Business Manager and General Manager of Life Magazine.

Caughman is a graduate of the Yale School of Management and Middlebury College. Before joining Time Inc, Caughman lived abroad for a number of years while working in international economic development.

Currently a member of the board of the Magazine Publishers Associationís Independent Magazine Advisory Committee, she served previously on the boards of the Direct Marketing Association and Families with Children from China.

Mark Gleason, Chief Operating Officer

Mark Gleason co-founded Book magazine in 1998 and served as its publisher and president through the end of 2003. In 2000, Book forged a strategic partnership with leading bookseller Barnes & Noble, becoming a pioneer in the development of partnership circulation programs. At the height of the B&N partnership, Book's paid circulation exceeded 1 million.

Gleason's sales leadership is complemented by years of experience running editorial and marketing groups. He spent six years at business publications Advertising Age and the Cincinnati Business Courier. Gleason embarked on a management career at the age of 20, running a $2 million company in college; he then moved to Procter & Gamble, where he helped P&G become a trailblazer in U.S. Hispanic marketing before shifting into a career in publishing.

Gleason has a master's degree from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism and a bachelor's degree from Georgetown University. He has served on the boards of New York Is Book Country and the Independent Magazine Advisory Group of the MPA.

Wayne Kalyn – Editor, ADDitude

Editor Wayne Kalyn has deep roots in consumer health and lifestyle publishing. From 2004 to 2007, he served as editor of Jungle Media's four magazines for young professionals. Earlier in his career, he spent six years as editorial director of Reader's Digest Books, working on health titles such as The Complete Guide to Pain Relief, The Healing Power of Vitamins, Minerals, Herbs and Taking Charge of Arthritis. He also served as Senior Editor at Men's Journal, helping it win the 1995 National Magazine Award for General Excellence. Kalyn's writings have appeared in national publications including Health, Parenting, People, Reader's Digest, Good Housekeeping, and The New York Times.

Al Berman – National Advertising Director, New Hope Media

Over the past 30 years, Al has worked with a diverse group of clients creating promotional opportunities for advertisers to interact with his magazines' audiences. He has served as Associate Publisher at The Hearst Special Interest Publications and Colonial Homes, Advertising Director of Travel & Leisure, and Ad Manager at Gourmet & SELF.

Susan Sidler – Consumer Marketing Director

Susan Sidler has over 23 years of circulation experience including senior circulation positions at Meredith Corporation, Rodale Press and Primedia. Specializing in circulation planning and analysis, fulfillment, and management of circulation operations, Sidler has managed the circulation and fulfillment for numerous special interest magazines including Nickelodeon, Yankee Magazine, Archaeology, Tango, Fox Chapel Publishing, Running Times, Love of Quilting and many others.
